What's new for 2017?

Dump the bucket had a banner year in 2016! We opened the doors of our greywater recycling lab and completed a six-month pilot test of four systems. Unfortunately, after evaluating the data, none of the four systems fully met our unique needs.

If you’re wondering what’s coming up for 2017 – LOTS! We’ve reassembled our project team, reviewed the lessons learned from the original pilot test (phase 1), and are installing four newly configured systems for additional testing (phase 2). We hope to begin running phase 2 in February 2017.

Stay tuned for updates!

Create Greywater Recycling Lab…Check.

·         The warehouse has been completely renovated into a greywater recycling lab!

·         Four different treatment systems have been configured. Each system will be tested separately in order to gain a detailed understanding of system operations and evaluate each system for suitability for rural Alaskan homes.

·         Our lab technicians will use NSF’s greywater “recipe” to mix up batches of greywater and add to the treatment systems daily.

·         Interested in seeing the operation for yourself? We will be hosting a greywater recycling lab open house in December! Stay tuned for invitation details soon.

Although this may look like thousands of little plastic widgets, it’s actually filter media! The wheel-shaped polyethylene media has a ton of surface area for bacteria to colonize. Once it’s colonized, the media becomes neutrally buoyant.

The Greywater Recycling Project Continues!

Since raising $8235 with the Dump the Bucket Indiegogo campaign, we received financial support from multiple organizations including Bethel Community Services Foundation, Donlin Gold, YKHC Diabetes Prevention & Control, and others. We are pleased to announce that the greywater recycling project is moving forward!

We wanted to share a few project updates:

·         Greywater recycling systems began arriving in Bethel by barge.

·         Our team is currently renovating a warehouse; it will be the perfect space for our greywater recycling lab. We expect the renovation to be completed in September. Photos to come soon!

The Campaign Ends - The Journey Begins

Our one-month Indiegogo campaign has ended. Although we did not reach our goal, we received tremendous support for the project and raised $8,235! We are very excited about the level of interest and support obtained through our campaign! This support allowed us to leverage additional funding from numerous organizations.

Currently, our team is reaching out to additional organizations that are interested in supporting the project. Our team is also working hard to fulfill our backers’ needs and show our appreciation through the fulfillment of perks.

If you are wondering where you can keep up with future project development, be sure to sign up for e-mail updates at our website. You can also check out our blog or facebook.

Once again, thank you for your support as we begin our journey! For more information or if you have any questions, please email info@dumpthebucket.org!

The Final Countdown

We are down to the final three days of the Dump the Bucket Indiegogo campaign! We have raised $5,845 to date, but are still a long way from our goal of $15,000. Are you interested in exploring water reuse systems for Alaskan villages? Do you feel it’s time to dump the bucket and provide rural Alaska with water? Please consider joining our cause by making a small donation to show your support for this water reuse project!

Location, Location, Location

The Bethel City Council just approved our proposal to rent a city-owned warehouse. This warehouse is the soon-to-be home of the Dump the Bucket greywater recycling lab testing! In addition to lab testing, we will be utilizing this space for training purposes. Water plant operators will be able to attend hands-on training at this location. We already have boiler and electrical controls trainings in the works.

In other news, the greywater recycling unit we purchased is expected to arrive by barge in August!

Quyana for your support, and please continue to spread the word.

Day 17 Status Update

It's been a little more that two weeks since we've launched the Dump the Bucket campaign. We're a little over a third of the way through the campaign, and are a little over a third of the way to our goal!

The excitement generated by the outpouring of support has raised interest by some of our partners. We recently received a mini-grant from the YKHC Diabetes Team for $10,000, and yesterday we used that to purchase our first greywater recycling unit to test in the lab!

Thank you all for your support so far, and please continue to spread the word.

Day Ten Status Update

It's been ten days since we kicked off our Dump the Bucket campaign on Indiegogo. In that time, we raised 30% $4,445 of our goal $15,000! Thank you to the many supporters who contributed financially and spread the word through social media or otherwise! Thank you to those who reached out to discuss the project with us; we value and appreciate your input!

Thirty-six days left and counting. Please continue to help support our goal of building and testing a greywater system.
